Townend Care praised in latest Care Report

Enhance Healthcare is proud to announce that Townend Care Home has excelled in its latest inspection, reaffirming its commitment to outstanding care. This stunning Victorian-era home, set within acres of picturesque grounds in the beautiful village of Symington, recently underwent an unannounced inspection by the Care Inspectorate with some wonderful results.

The inspection, conducted on 14th and 15th January, focused on Leadership, Wellbeing, and Planning. Inspectors engaged with staff, residents, and visiting professionals while also reviewing documentation and observing daily practices. Townend maintained its already high standards with a score of 4 (Good) in both Wellbeing and Support Planning and further elevated its reputation by improving to a 5 (Very Good) in Leadership.

Inspectors praised the unwavering dedication of Townend’s staff, stating:


“We observed a caring and compassionate approach by all the staff team at Townend.”


They further highlighted the team's deep commitment to residents noting:

“There was an obvious passion for supporting and helping people with learning disabilities.”


The inspection also commended the strong relationships between staff and residents, emphasising that care was delivered with “respect and dignity.” Townend’s ability to provide highly personalised care was attributed to “a good standard of staffing” and “a consistent team of care staff”, an aspect of care that Enhance Healthcare prioritises across all its homes.


As part of the evaluation, the inspection examined how well residents’ care and support was planned. Townend utilises cutting-edge industry software alongside a suite of mobile devices, laptops, and desktop computers to ensure real-time, up-to-date care planning. This proactive approach was reflected in the inspectors’ findings who were pleased to note:


 “Good details describing how individuals presented if they exhibited any stress and distress behaviours. Including how best the staff could deal with this in an effective and safe manner”


The report further emphasised that:


“People living in the care home benefited from being supported by a staff team who were caring, compassionate and competent at identifying people's healthcare needs.”


Townend’s leadership was also thoroughly assessed, with inspectors recognising the home as “a very well managed service with positive, proactive and responsive professional leadership in practice.”


The management team, led by Rory Wood, an experienced healthcare professional who took over as Manager in 2024, and Deputy Manager Stephanie Anderson—who has been with Townend for several years—was praised for its complementary and collaborative leadership style. Inspectors noted:


“The manager and deputy provided a good overview and complimented each other through supportive and professional working practices.”



Furthermore, the home’s commitment to quality assurance was highlighted as having a direct positive impact on resident outcomes. Inspectors found “good standards of practice” in quality assurance, reinforcing Townend’s reputation for excellence.


Townend Care Home’s latest inspection results are a testament to the dedication and expertise of its staff and leadership. Townend Care Home offers accommodation for up to 24 residents, specifically young adults with learning disabilities and mental health conditions, in beautifully maintained private rooms, each designed to provide a comfortable and homely atmosphere. The home boasts a range of communal spaces, including bright lounges, a welcoming dining area, and tranquil outdoor gardens where residents can relax and enjoy nature. With a strong focus on creating a supportive and inclusive environment, Townend is well known for its warm and friendly atmosphere, where staff go above and beyond to make residents feel at home. To build on this success, exciting development work is underway to create six additional rooms, ensuring Townend can continue delivering high standards of care while extending its support to more individuals in the community.
