Meaningful Moments Through Armchair Travel: A Journey to Japan at Bughties

May 15, 2025

At Bughties, we believe in creating daily experiences that enrich the lives of those who live with us. Our Armchair Travel programme is just one of the ways we bring purpose, connection, and joy into the heart of our home.

This month, residents at Bughties in Broughty Ferry took a virtual trip to Japan, without ever leaving their chairs. The home was transformed into a Japanese-inspired setting, complete with themed decorations, traditional music, and even a dedicated ‘departure lounge’ to set the scene.

Our fantastic kitchen team prepared a beautiful Japanese lunch menu, while activity staff dressed in traditional kimonos to fully immerse residents in the day. Through online video tours, sensory touches, and a themed quiz, residents were able to explore the sights, sounds, and flavours of another culture from the comfort of their home.

“What a brilliant day. So nice to see everyone enjoying themselves.” - Family member

It was more than just a themed day, it was a chance to connect, to reminisce, and to spark curiosity. Some residents shared stories of trips taken in years past, while others delighted in learning about a place they’d never visited before.

Activities like this don’t just entertain, they create conversation, stimulate memory, and promote wellbeing. They offer residents the chance to be active participants in shaping their days, choosing destinations and contributing ideas that make each journey feel personal and exciting. Our staff take pride in going the extra mile to make each experience meaningful, and the laughter and energy throughout the day is proof of just how valued these moments are.

Located in Broughty Ferry with peaceful views across the River Tay, Bughties is a warm and welcoming care home where every day is shaped around what matters most to our residents. From meaningful activities to personalised care, our team is committed to making life as enriching as possible.

The residents are already helping plan next month’s destination—because when the world comes to you, the adventure never has to end.
