The stunning building was commissioned by Henry Monteith for his wife and included many intricate designs specifically dedicated to her. There are 365 windows in the original building, so she had a window to enjoy for every day of the year. It was a true labour of love. The building has stood the test of time and has had many uses over the years including as a World War 2 training station and an orphanage.
We provide 24 hour nursing care for younger adults with various mental health issues, including learning difficulties and brain injuries, among others.
We have thirty three bedrooms, all of which are decorated and furnished to a high standard and have en-suites and independent kitchen facilities. The home is set in its own grounds with extensive gardens accessible to all, as well as beautiful views of the countryside. Residents can also take a short walk to the neighbouring farm to view the sheep and cows.
The local village Carstairs, has a shop which our residents can walk to, or be assisted if required. We are also only 4 miles from the local shopping town, Lanark, which gives allows residents to remain independent and take time out.
Additionally we are involved with lots of local activities and take part in the Gala Day each year and host our own fetes and galas for locals to come and support.
Various residents attend the college in Motherwell to learn different skills and we have some residents with part time volunteering jobs.
We actively participate with local initiatives such as CCI where our residents are involved in the sensory gardens and men’s shed, expanding and learning new life skills and promoting independence and social skills.
